THE WORLD CUP 2014 Fortaleza is a World Cup city in 2014. In addition to the development which is already under way and that which is currently in the planning stage, the city is expected to invest $4.5 billion more between now and the World Cup. This is a massive sum and the change to the face of the city and region will be immense and long lasting:
FORTALEZA - THE AREA "Ahhh Fortaleza, I love Fortaleza". Mention the capital city of the North East Brazilian state of Ceará to any Brazilian and this is likely what you'll hear. It is after all the number one tourist destination for Brazilians. Beset with breathtaking beaches with incredibly long stretches of sand interrupted only by colourful red cliffs, palm trees, dunes and lagoons, it is indeed a tropical paradise. Fortaleza is one of the largest cities in Brazil with a population of 2.5 million and certainly one of the most vibrant. Temperatures range from 23-31 C (74-88F) with rare exceptions. July to November has virtually no rain. February to May can have its share, but mostly at night. Fortaleza, and the beaches to its east and west, are Brazil's No.1 tourist destination. This is where Brazilians come for their vacations. Consequently, Fortaleza and its surrounding areas are receiving most of the attention from developers and property investors from around the world. Major tour operators are fast adding Brazil to their offers as Brazil is becoming one of the most promising markets. International and domestic groups are investing billions in new hotels and resorts in the northeast and the internationally well-known resort, Club Med, has three resorts located there already.
